Courses of the Chair of Product Development

In view of the increasing complexity of modern technical and socio-technical systems (key words: Industry 4.0, Cyber Physical Systems and Product Service Systems), it is important to develop the necessary understanding of systems, analytical skills and the ability to abstract, while at the same time promoting and developing creativity and problem-solving skills
The smooth transition of the job profile between design engineer, system designer and product developer requires not only an understanding of systems but also knowledge of the technology in detail A solid knowledge of machine elements, their functional selection, dimensioning and design and the use of modern software systems are part of the foundation of mechanical engineering training
The interaction between the BSc and MSc courses is designed in such a way that the skills of the design engineer are created in the BSc courses with a focus on the design and calculation of machine elements and simple constructions, in order to then use this basis in the MSc course to develop the necessary system understanding, methodological competence and process understanding for product development.

Various forms of teaching are combined to impart these skills. Introduction to new topics and theoretical principles are taught by means of traditional lectures and integrated courses. In order to deepen knowledge through application and transfer to real problems, group exercises and project work are integrated into the teaching and results are prototypically realized in a makerspace.
