A framework for strategic risk management in context of additive manufacturing implementation in SMEs

Researcher Dominik Fuchs

Goal

Development of a strategic risk management framework for manufacturing SMEs to facilitate the implementation of Additive Manufacturing (AM) based on an assessment of their AM competency / maturity level.

Research focus

The implementation of Additive Manufacturing is a challenge for many SMEs. Due to the complexity of the technology in combination with a lack of knowledge, implementation projects often do not deliver expected benefits or exceed planned budgets.

This project aims to develop a strategic risk management (SRM) framework tailored to the needs of SMEs. This SRM model will enable companies to identify, assess and proactively eliminate potential risks to successfully implement AM into business processes.

The approach will incorporate international standards such as DIN ISO 31000 and combines proven practice with innovative methods. By analysing the current level of maturity in enterprises and identifying best practices, this project aims to close the knowledge gap between theory and practice and provide tailored guidance for successful AM implementation in SMEs.
