Single subject studies

The highly specialised research environment within BrainLab is designed for single-subject studies. The focus is on the time-synchronous analysis of cognitive processes and cognitive loads that occur whilst performing tasks in product development. The physiological measurement methods available include eye tracking (ET), electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).

Applications in various fields of research:

Visual attention:

  • Investigation of the distribution and focusing of attention on various sources of information and working materials.

Cognitive load:

  • Measuring mental strain during specific development activities, e.g. problem analysis, concept design or decision-making processes.

Development methodology:

  • Analysing the effects of development tools and methods on cognitive strain.

Information processing and decision-making:

  • Identifying challenges and bottlenecks in the cognitive processing of complex information
